I finished watching United States of Tara this week. It shot into my top 10 favorite shows when I saw that they weren’t going to make a big deal out of one of the main character’s sexuality. He was just gay - it wasn’t a big deal. And that is really fucking nice, Hollywood, so please take note.
I’ll never properly understand why all of the best shows get cancelled before their time, but this is one pity party I don’t mind being in so much, mainly because it’s filled with people who have really excellent taste in television. And that happens to be a trait I find very telling of people.

The plot of every episode of Bones, a TV show

  1. A corpse is found in a unusual and slightly comical way, often by an unsuspecting youth doing stereotypically youthful things.
  2. Our hero and heroine begin the hunt for the truth (almost always a murderer), starting with the obvious suspects.
  3. The obvious suspects seem obvious until one of their stories doesn’t match up and our lead characters suddenly bring their attention back to a has-been-insignificant character, often from the first five minutes of the episode.
  4. We learn that humans are cuh-ray-zee and often act spontaneously and against their better judgment.
  5. Bones learns a little something something about the value of human emotions and Booth makes a joke about how Bones is actually human, and not a robot.

Note that I actually enjoy Bones quite a lot. I just think it’s funny how simple the writing often is.
